Designing electrode interface board (EIB) for the X-Headstage

Designing an electrode interface board (EIB) for the X-Headstages is easy.  Download the example EIB Eagle PCB design in the Download/PCB Design/ section.  You must register an account here to see the link.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. X3R32, X3R64, and X3SR32 all use the same X3BtB connectors (see this article for part numbers). Due to how the ICs are wired inside the chip package, keep in mind:

    1. X3R32 has only one of the two connectors activated; the other is not connected.

    2. X3R64 has both connectors activated.

    3. X3SR32 uses both connectors but half of the connections in each connector are not connected.

  2. One key advantage of the X-Headstage is its ability to support multiple probe implants with a single headstage and cable. So, when designing the EIB for 16ch or 32ch electrodes for the X-Headstages, you may want to consider using an EIB with a half-width board so you could install two EIBs in the headstage.
